Dislocation electron tomography: A technique to characterize the dislocation microstructure evolution in zirconium alloys under irradiation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Diffraction-contrast electron tomography was used to analyse the 3D geometry of dislocation microstructure in a zirconium alloy before and after ion irradiation. The material had been strained at room temperature prior After straining, exhibited mainly screw dislocations with Burgers vectors. From analysis habit plane non-screw segments, it deduced that they have glided prismatic planes lesser extent first order pyramidal planes. irradiation, loops vectors were observed. It shown are not pure edge their located around {101¯0}, tilted up 20° towards (0001) {112¯0}. Furthermore, proven initial climbed under Several also found interacted during climb. climb irradiation is an important mechanism can explain part in-reactor deformation alloys when subjected simultaneous mechanical loading Interactions between occurring may play significant role on alloys.

Dislocation Loop Formation and Growth under In Situ Laser and/or Electron Irradiation

Vacancies and interstitial atoms are primary lattice (point) defects that cause observable microstructural changes, such as the formation of dislocation loops and voids in crystalline solids. These defects' diffusion properties determine the phase stability and environmental resistibility of macroscopic materials under ambient conditions. Although in situ methods have been proposed for measurin...

Threading dislocation evolution in mega-electron-volt phosphorus implanted silicon

The effect of dose and energy on postannealing defect formation for high energy ~mega-electron-volt! phosphorus implanted silicon has been studied using etch pit studies and transmission electron microscopy ~TEM!. Previous work has shown that after annealing there is a strong dependence of dislocation density threading to the surface on the implanted phosphorus dose and energy. A superlinear in...

Dislocation Climb in the Electron Wind

When a current flows in a conductor, the electron wind can cause atoms to diffuse. This paper considers the consequences of such diffusion along dislocation cores. A dislocation climbing in a crystal is viewed as a non-equilibrium thermodynamic system to define the force that drives self-diffusion along the core. Not only is a dislocation a mass-transport pipe, it also climbs and generates more...

A dislocation-scale characterization of the evolution

In this work, plastic deformation was locally introduced at room temperature by 12 nanoindentation on a γ-TiAl based alloy. Comprehensive analyzes of microstructures were 13 performed before and after deformation. In particular, the Burgers vectors, the line directions and 14 the mechanical twinning systems were studied via accurate electron channeling contrast imaging. 15 Accommodation of the ...

Habitual dislocation of the hip: a rare case report

Habitual dislocation of the hip (HDH) in children is a rare entity and can be a causative factor for popping or snapping hip which is a common problem in children with good prognosis. We report a case of HDH in a 9 year old girl who was suffering from frequent snapping hip at night, its course and treatment process.
